This week Year 2 have been studying the work of the African artist Gakonga. The children created their own artwork in his style. First, they created the brightly coloured background using watercolours. Then, they practised sketching people. After that, they carefully drew the people onto their backgrounds. Finally, they coloured the clothes of the people using felt tips. I’m sure you will agree, they look amazing.
Still on the theme of Africa, we looked at tribal masks. The children began by designing a mask of their own. Then they used Modroc to build their mask incorporating a 3D effect. The masks were finished with paints and accessories such as feathers.
