Welcome to our new Year 2 classes, we have had a brilliant first week getting to know them!

Year two blog – term 1 week 1

This week we welcomed our new classes of children to year 2 and have had a brilliant first week getting to know them and having them in our classes.

This term we are reading the book ‘Jack and the jellybean stalk’ by Rachel Mortimer. The children have loved reading the story, drawing it as a story map and adding actions to the story so that they know it ready for the term ahead. And were shocked when a jellybean stalk grew in each classroom over the weekend!

In mathematics this week, we have been looking at two-digit numbers and partitioning them. Lots of the children found this new learning quite hard but they preserved through. Next week we will be looking at writing two-digit numbers in numerals and in their written form and placing these onto a number line.

For history this week, we have been looking at timelines, our own and those of people of different ages. The children had a great time showing the pictures they brought in and moving them to show their timeline.

In science this week we looked at how humans grow up, we draw out the stages of a human’s life and labelled this. Lots of the children labelled teenagers as ‘grumpy’!

We would like to thank you very much for sending in the photos of the children growing up, of their grandparents and other special people in their lives. These have been well looked after and used brilliantly to show the children just how they have grown, both in science and history.

Also this week, our head boy and head girl was picked. These children were picked because of their brilliant behaviour in school and their excellent effort. Congratulations to them both!

This first week has been great and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the year will be like.
