Well done to all the children of Year 2 and your families for the tremendous response to our first week of home learning. It has been a strange week for all of us and we have really missed seeing you all but have loved seeing all the updates with photos on Purple Mash.
In English we have been busy writing instructions and improving them. Children made bird feeders and flapjacks and wrote instructions on how they made these. The children had a picture from Ice Age and were asked to write expanded noun phrases to describe.
Before school closed, in DT we planned our woolly mammoth designs and had been busy collecting milk bottles. When we heard school was closing all the children were given a milk bottle and some brown tissue paper to take home with the instructions so they could make their own woolly mammoths with their families. We have been sent some fabulous pictures of these woolly mammoths on Purple Mash.
In Science we have looked at food chains and the children were asked to draw their own food chains.
In Maths, the children have been learning to tell the time on the analogue clock. We looked at o’clock and half past. The children also had a go at drawing the hands on the clock to show o’clock and half past.
The children have also loved the daily Lego challenges which has seen them creating roller coasters, rockets and houses. Even Mrs Argrave got involved in this and created her own rocket.
The children have enjoyed using a range of fun and interactive games to help their learning. We have seen that lots of children have logged on to Teach Your Monster to Read and have enjoyed working on their reading skills. We have been getting daily updates of the children taking part in the maths 2Dos set on Purple Mash and we have seen how well you have been doing reading the time and working on the fluency of your times tables. All children have also had a login for TT Rockstars and Numbots so if you haven’t already please check these games out which will help you become more fluent in addition, subtraction and your times tables.
If you haven’t already, please log on to Purple Mash as there are lots of fun resources on there that we are uploading daily. Please remember that you can also e-mail us via the 2Email on Purple Mash with any questions or queries and we will be more than happy to help you.
Again, thank you for your support and please remember you are doing a fantastic job and we are very proud of the effort everyone is putting in to continue some learning at home during this difficult time. Remember it’s also important that you spend quality time with your children and just enjoy spending time together baking, colouring, playing games, drawing, building etc.
