Year One really enjoyed Number Day on Thursday! Our focus was measuring linked to our penguins topic.
First we made a boat for our class penguin to travel home in. The challenge was to make it 10 cubes long. Unfortunately, our penguin did not tell us what size cube! We learnt that it is more reliable to measure with a ruler as cubes can come in different sizes but centimetres are always the same.
After that we thought about the heights of different penguins. We have learnt that Emperor penguins are the tallest at 1m and Little Penguins are the smallest at just 30cm. We tried hard to draw penguins that were the correct size.
In the afternoon, we had a go at being Rockhopper penguins! We hopped around and measure who could jump the furthest. We had lots of fun and learnt a lot about measuring too!
A big well done to everyone who dressed up! Your costumes were very imaginative!
