Year 2 marked Remembrance Day with some special art

We have had another very busy week in Year 2.

In English we have continued our work based on the book ‘Lila ad the Secret of Rain’. We wrote a postcard from Lila to the villagers telling them about her journey to the mountain and the search for rain. The children also used noun phrases and expanded noun phrases to write a description of a setting from the story. On Wednesday we talked about the importance of Remembrance Day and the children were extremely respectful in observing the two minute silence. We marked the special day with some acrostic poems and some Remembrance art which is going to be used to create a whole school display which we will share with you when it has all been put together.

In Maths we have been using the CPA method to add ones to a two-digit number and adding two 2-digit numbers involving regrouping. This was a very tricky concept which we continue to practise throughout the year.

In DT we made a rainmaker using card, tissue paper, elastic bands and rice. We chose to make rainmakers because it’s a traditional African musical instrument.

In Geography we learnt about Kenya. We located Kenya on a map of the world and within Africa. We used Google Earth to look at Kenya and where it is in location to the rest of the world.

We ended the week with children marking Children in Need by wearing stripes and spots.
