Year One had lots of fun with Maths on Number Day! Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes. Well done especially to those of you who decorated t-shirts to wear!
We based our learning around the story The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins. If you would like to share this story at home, you can find videos of it being read on YouTube.
First we did a bit of drama to help us better understand the maths in the story. We invited more and more children up to the front of the classroom until we had shared out all our biscuits. We discovered that each time more children arrived, we got less biscuits each! We also practised acting out the story with maths equipment so we could see how the biscuits were always shared fairly.
Later on, everyone got to decorate a biscuit. The children had to use their knowledge of fractions to help them. The children split their biscuits into quarters and then had to decide how decorate each quarter. The best bit was getting to ice and decorate our biscuits... or was it eating them?!
Excellent number work, everybody!
