In science this week, Year 2 conducted an experiment to find out how clean our hands really are. The children had to decide the best way to test this using the equipment provided to them: bread, tongs, and zip bags. They planned their investigation and made a prediction about what they thought would happen. Most of the children predicted that the bread touched by dirty hands would be the first to grow mould.

Next, the children set up the experiment. They placed one piece of bread in a bag with the tongs to compare the cleanliness of dirty and washed hands. They then touched one piece of bread with their dirty hands and placed it in a Ziploc bag. After washing their hands using soap, they touched the final piece of bread and placed it in another Ziploc bag.

Now, we wait to see which piece of bread will grow mouldy first!
