Personal Development

At Grange, we want every child to feel happy, confident, and ready for the world. Personal Development is not something extra we add on - it is part of everything we do, in every lesson, every assembly, every event, and every conversation.

We want children to:

  • Learn how to work well with others.
  • Be kind and respectful to everyone.
  • Believe in themselves and their abilities.
  • Feel confident to share their ideas and opinions.

Our goal is to help children grow into people who know their place in the world, feel proud of who they are, and have the courage to reach for their dreams.

At Grange, we provide lots of opportunities for children to learn and explore so they can achieve their best now and in the future. We want children to understand the world around them and to believe that they can do amazing things.

Through our Personal Development Curriculum, children learn about:

  • British Values - like respect, fairness, and making good choices.
  • Protected Characteristics - understanding and celebrating differences, so everyone feels included.
  • PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) - learning how to look after themselves and others.
  • RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) - learning about friendships, families, and healthy relationships.
  • SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural education) - thinking about right and wrong, different beliefs, and how people live.

We also help children to build good character and learn how to make positive behaviour choices. If problems happen, we use fair systems and encourage children to understand others' feelings and work together to make things right.

Every child is important to us, and we make sure that all children - including those who may face extra challenges - get the chance to take part in exciting experiences and opportunities. We believe that with the right support, every child can grow into a kind, confident, and successful person.

At Grange, we have something very special called Grow @ Grange. This helps every child on their learning journey and gives them lots of chances to grow, not just in lessons but as people too.

Through fun events and activities, we help children learn how to:

  • Be kind, respectful, and fair.
  • Understand their place in the world.
  • Work together to make their communities happy and safe.

We know that every child is different, with their own talents and interests. That's why we offer lots of clubs and activities, chosen with the help of pupil voice and our School Action Group. We want children to have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to face life's challenges and to enjoy the many opportunities the world has to offer.

At Grange, we also help children learn how to take care of themselves - both their bodies and their minds - and how to keep safe, including online. We want every child to leave us feeling ready for the next stage of school, with the resilience and ambition to achieve their dreams.

Through Grow @ Grange, children learn about:

Healthy & Safe Behaviours

  • Looking after themselves through PSHE lessons.
  • Building positive friendships and learning about families (RSE).
  • Staying physically healthy and caring for their mental wellbeing.
  • Keeping safe in the wider world, including online.

Citizenship Development

  • How to play a full and active role in society.
  • Our Grange Values that guide good choices.

Taking part in extra activities that help them grow as citizens.

Developing Character

  • Meeting high expectations.
  • Showing respect, good manners, and kindness.

Building resilience and aiming high.

Grange Values and British Values

  • Democracy - having a say and voting, like in our School Action Group elections.
  • Rule of Law - understanding why rules and laws are important, from Early Years visits by the police to learning about history and taking part in Mini Police in Years 5 and 6.
  • Respect and Tolerance - celebrating different cultures, religions, and traditions through RE, PSHE, assemblies, and special events.
  • Individual Liberty - knowing we have choices and rights, and using them wisely.

At Grange, we want every child to see the big wide world as full of possibilities, and to know that with confidence, kindness, and determination, they can achieve amazing things.
