In Maths this week, Year 1 have been learning to measure length and height in non-standard units. This means that we've been using things such as cubes, paperclips and finger steps to measure lots of objects around the classroom and school. We've been using the vocabulary: long, longer, longest and short, shorter, shortest, as well as, tall, taller, tallest to describe and compare objects.
In English, we've started learning and writing about Brunel. To link in with our Maths, we've been learning about words ending in -er and -est and how to use them in writing. For example: Brunel built the longest tunnel through Box Hill. We will take this learning further in both our English and History during Week 5.
In Computing, we've used all the skills we've learned in ScratchJr to create a space race. First, we had to plan our programs and then we had to input it precisely into ScratchJr before testing and improving our programs.
In Science, we created models of human beings from plasticine and labelled all the main parts, such as head, eyes, neck, knees and toes. Our challenge was to try and label some internal organs, like the heart and lungs.
In the week ahead, we are planning on building steam locomotives in Design in Technology. If you have any shoeboxes with detachable lids at home, please can you donate this for our project?
Thank you for your continued support.
